The Festival of Lights — Dress in Radiance

About Diwali

Diwali — the Festival of Lights — is celebrated across South Asia and by Indian communities worldwide. It marks the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil. The five-day festival is associated with Goddess Lakshmi (wealth and prosperity) and is the most commercially and culturally significant Hindu holiday.

Why & How It Is Celebrated

The origins of Diwali vary by tradition: in North India it celebrates Lord Ram's return to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana; in the South it marks Lord Krishna's victory over the demon Narakasura; in the Jain tradition it commemorates Lord Mahavira's attainment of nirvana. The lighting of diyas (oil lamps), fireworks, sweets, and new clothes are central traditions shared across all regions.

What to Wear to Diwali

Anarkali Suits
Flowing, regal, and deeply Indian — Anarkali suits are a top Diwali choice. Rich fabrics like brocade, velvet, and silk with intricate embroidery feel luxurious and festive.
Silk Sarees
A Diwali classic. Kanjivaram, Banarasi, and Paithani silks in gold, deep red, emerald, and burnt orange glow beautifully in candlelight and diya light.
Lehenga Choli
Festive lehengas with mirror work, zardosi embroidery, and rich silk fabric are ideal for Diwali parties and family gatherings.
Kurta Sets for Men
Silk or embroidered kurta with churidar or straight pants. Deep jewel tones — maroon, navy, forest green — are popular for Diwali.
